About RollerMouse

  • Why should I use a RollerMouse?

The traditional mouse forces you to use your arms, back, shoulders, necks, hands and wrists to perform a very simple task - moving the cursor on a computer screen. Many of these muscles are not intended to carry out the micro movements required to control a conventional mouse. Using large muscle groups, gripping the mouse and constantly reaching to the side can be a dangerous cocktail for the body. This is the root of many potential problems, from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to Repetitive Strain Injury, and can simply cause pain.

    • RollerMouse is placed right front of your keyboard, so you don't have to reach for the mouse. This ergonomic position reduces tension in hands, arms, shoulders and neck and reduces the risk of mouse arm.
    • RollerMouse eliminates harmful movements and helps form safer working habits. It allows you to work more comfortably and efficiently, use fewer body parts, and maintain a symmetrical posture. It is an ergonomic mouse alternative that promotes the use of both hands, separate pointing and clicking, and a 'one touch' double-click.

Need more reasons to use RollerMouse? It is also:

    • Grip-less: You never have to grip or hold RollerMouse. It is controlled by your light physical touch.
    • Stationary: RollerMouse is designed to stay in place on your desk. It is always in the best position for your body.
    • Centrally placed: The optimal work zone for your hands.
    • Comfortable: An integrated padded wrist rest is ergonomically designed to keep your hands, wrists and forearms flat.

  • What keyboards are compatible with a RollerMouse?

Contour_RollerMouse_Pro2_black_assembling_001_websmall.jpgMost typical rectangular keyboards, available in various sizes, fit a RollerMouse. RollerMouse comes equipped with keyboard risers, two mini-platforms, which allow you to customize the height and angle of your keyboard.

Tip: You can vary settings to adapt to thinner, more narrow or compact keyboards. If your keyboard deviates in size and shape from a typical rectangular keyboard, try different combinations to find out what works best for you.

  • Will RollerMouse work with my computer?

Yes. RollerMouse products are designed to operate on a Plug-and-Play basis on a PC or Mac.

Tip: If you're using a Mac with RollerMouse Pro2 or Free2, the 'one touch' copy and paste button functions will not work without a driver unless you are using 'Microsoft Office for Mac'.

  • Can I use a traditional mouse together with a RollerMouse?

Yes, RollerMouse can work in conjunction with other mice, both external and integrated (e.g., touch pads).

Tip: If you decide to keep your traditional mouse when learning to use a RollerMouse, make sure to place your traditional mouse out of reach, so you don't reach for it out of habit.

  • Do I need to use a driver?
All RollerMouse products are pre-programmed with smart button functions. This built-in software gives users the most ergonomically beneficial set of button functions so you can just plug n' play. However some users may want to manually change button functions to get even greater functionality and variation. Mac users will need to use a driver to assign the preferred button functions to RollerMouse. Due to the difference in copy and paste commands on a Mac, the corresponding buttons on Pro2 and Free2 won't work without the driver.

Troubleshooting

  • My RollerMouse doesn’t seem to be working properly. What can I do?

    Some troubleshooting tips:

    • Try re-connecting (maybe in a different port) your RollerMouse or restart the computer
    • Try connecting your RollerMouse to another computer
    • Make sure you haven't downloaded another mouse driver on your computer - it might interfere with your RollerMouse
    • Try connecting someone else's RollerMouse to your computer (and vice versa)

If there only is a problem when RollerMouse is connected to your computer, then the problem is most likely with your computer. If the problem with Roller Mouse is consistent and appears in the same way on any computer, then your RollerMouse unit is mostly likely the cause. For further help, review the other FAQs, or contact the reseller or us directly at our warranty & return policy page.

  • My cursor is moving too fast on the screen. How can I adjust the speed?

    RollerMouse Free2:

Change the cursor speed with the touch of a button. Each click increases the precision by 200 dpi.

You can also set the speed of the cursor in your computer's settings panel, simply select 'Mouse Settings' and adjust accordingly.

  • I can’t move my cursor any further. How can I continue moving the cursor?

Contour_RollerMouse_Free2_white_detail w hand_005_websmall.jpgIf you moved the rollerbar all the way to the left or right and you'd like to continue moving your cursor, simply force the rollerbar slightly in the intended direction until you hear a gentle click. This activates the end detection and the cursor is free to move anywhere on the screen. Release the rollerbar when the cursor is where you want it.

Tip: If you find that your cursor is too often out of the rollerbar's range, your selected cursor speed may be too low.

  • Can I change the button functions?

Most Contour Design products offer a driver that can be downloaded and installed in order to customize the button functions. New versions of RollerMouse - Classic2, Pro2 and Free2 - use a universal Contour Design mouse drive that supports multiple Windows versions (from XP to Windows 7). Most of the older Contour Design products have a specific driver version, and all older drivers are not upgradeable. See the driver download section. Please note: Drivers are not normally needed for RollerMouse.
